The 2009 Malaya Study Group AGM

Meeting held on March 21st 2009

The 2009 AGM was conducted with his normal aplomb by the Chairman Peter Cockburn. The Committee was elected, some might even say re-elected. The Programme for 2009 - 2010 was approved, as were the Officers Reports, the Accounts and the Treasurer's proposed increase in subscriptions. The subscription will rise to £15, with a £3 discount for members who pay on time by June 30th. Members who pay on time will only pay £12!

The increase is to assist in meeting the rapidly rising costs of postage, printing, falling interest rates and income from Auctions. In this financial year the subscription income was £3,794 and the costs of providing membership services were £9,129.

The 50th Anniversary of the Malaya Study Group programme is in full effect, and full details are on the website and in the special supplement to the Newsletter.

There will be a meeting in Penang in August, an all day meeting and evening Reception given by the Directors of Spink on June 20th 2009 in London. Contact Dominic Morris to confirm your invitation , by email at: dominiccbmorris@yahoo.co.uk

There will be a display at the Royal Philatelic Society London on 15th October 2009, with special Members Displays. Please contact David Tett about this, email at: davidtett@aol.com

The March 21st Auction

The Auction prices realised will of course be published in the Newsletter. The significant events were probably that 90% of the items were sold, and that modern Malaysian material continues to be in demand. Congratulations are due to our Auction Manager, Roger Barry, and to Peter Cockburn [Auctioneer] Dominic Morris & Joe Robertson, and Carl Stott, and of course to you, the members.
