The MSG AGM and Auction on March 23rd 2013

A report & pictures by Nick Hackney

The remorseless English Spring of 2013 continued to drop snowflakes and freezing winds across London, but thankfully not the snowdrifts and other horrors blasting much of the rest of the country. Despite this the hardy souls of the MSG reached Spink on Saturday March 23rd 2013 to cast their votes etc at the AGM, and to buy or marvel at the prices in the Auction that followed.

Part of the assembled multitude

The AGM thanked the Officers and Committee for their work during the year. We especially thanked Charles Keel who is retiring as Packet Secretary. Packets in circulation have risen in the past two years, and sales & income have risen in the past year. We congratulated Charles for his excellent work. We welcomed his successor, Michael Ellison, of Yarm who has volunteered to be our new Packet Secretary.

The good news from the Treasurer is that subscriptions are not going up, as we have cut costs, and had good income from our two Auctions in 2012. Subscriptions are now due - so pay £15 now and get the prompt payment discount - After June 30th 2013 the full rate of £20 will apply - so pay today and save 25%!

The Hon Sec. Dominic Morris, Chairman Susan McEwen and Treasurer Carl Stott conduct the AGM

Len Stanway's "Singapore Post Offices and Labels" is our forthcoming book, and we hope it will be published in January 2014.

We will have another full programme next year, with the details being finalised by Dominic Morris.

This year sees the 50th Anniversary of the foundation of Malaysia. Gibbons Stamp Monthly will publish six articles by MSG members in a specisl issue, and we will have a joint meeting to celebrate it with the Sarawak Specialists Society, followed by Dinner, on Saturday 14th September 2013.

The Hon Sec, Chairman and Treasurer declare they will attend the 50th Anniversary Dinner

We would like to thank Michael Waugh for his superb work in organising the Auction which was a great success. Over 90% of the lots by volume and value were sold, most of it well above the reserve.
