Appeal for assistance "Singapore registration handstamps"

Len Stanway is currently updating the Group’s “Singapore Post Offices and Registration Labels” book, with the intention of going to press early next year [in 2014] . He asks that any member who has a Singapore cover or piece which has a Singapore registration handstamp to send him details and, if possible, a scan of the cover/piece. These handstamps were primarily used before the introduction of labels in 1911 and during the 1920s austerity period, but have also been used in emergency from time to time since. Please contact him at len.stanway@btinternet.com

The Chinese New Year

The bronze figure of a galloping horse, with its hoof on a flying swallow, from the Eastern Han Dynasty

Happy New Year January 31st 2014 Chinese New Year, the Year of the Horse

Gong Xi Fa Cai -- Kiong Hee Huat Tsai.-- Kung Hei Fat Choi -- Selamat Tahun Baharu

[Mandarin -- Hokkien -- Cantonese -- Malay]

The spirit of the horse is recognized to be the Chinese people's ethos – making unremitting efforts to improve themselves. It is energetic, bright, warm-hearted, intelligent and able. Ancient people liked to designate an able person as 'Qianli Ma', a horse that covers a thousand li a day (one li equals 500 meters).
