I've got a few values from the 1907 and 1908 sets (printed from two plates) with a rather distinct white line diagonally upwards across the bow of the boat. I'm sure this must be a well-known variety, but I haven't any books to hand (Brunei not really my main interest). I'd be delighted to receive any information on the variety - particularly the plate position and which values were affected. A white line is less usual to find than a coloured scratch - is this an attempt to burnish out such a scratch? Thanks!

Andrew,

I have a 1908 1c. with a fairly visible white cross in the centre of the vignette. It is said to be stamp 18. My understanding is that it was crossed out as unsatisfactory during plate making or inspection, then touched-up in the hope of saving the cost of a complete re-entry.
