This 8c part missing overprint sold well on eBay recently for £79

Image

To my mind this may well be genuine. Note the thick and thin verticals of the Malaya As.

Suddenly three more appear from a totally different seller ssphilatelic from Malaysia,

This 3c seems to be to be completely the wrong colour and has even verticals on the Malaya A.

[img[/img]Image

This 2c leaves me baffled how such neat separation from the margin / stamp to the right could be achieved after overprinting and the Malaya A verticals look rather even

Image

This 25c also seems to have even verticals on the Malaya A.

Any comments would be appreciated.

Hi
can you post any ebay listing numbers?
I didn't find any examples on ebay just now.

'ssphilatelic' as an ebay seller is 'known' as in has listed fake Jap Occ stuff in the past !

and I don't see how on earth that 2c overprint occured with a neat perf fold.

These are on eBay US. 113162594219, 123265283828, 123265279774

I look on the Singapore and other international eBay sites for Malaya items.

I have mentioned to sellers that their items do not appear on the UK site, yet they are on other international sites, and are potentially missing out on sales to a keen Malaya interest area. One replied that he has tried, but failed with eBay to achieve UK listing.

Looking at the completed sales of ssphilatelic items there does appear to be a high proportion of varieties.

Like apocyphal busses here is another one purchased cheaply as part of a general BMA album page lot.

I think that I am happy with the Malaya As and believe this may be from the well known printing with (part) missing Ms from column 2. The two complete columns on part sheets I have of this do not tie up totally with Cameron's description, but this is the first wholly missing M example I have seen. If it is genuine I have not seen mention of the B and part of the first A missing too, unless it is perhaps a very late state.

The two strips I have do indicate a progressive situation.

Hi
found the examples on ebay.com

no explanation of the part overprints and they look VERY similar to each other
the 25c's corner cancel looks wrong - can it be compared to known Singapore cancels of the era?

but the 50c looks ok to me, helped by being in a mixed lot !

And another "interesting" item from SSPhilatelic on eBay, an 8c BMA "used".
